shower gel recipe

I have just finished making a bottle of shower gel ! You probably won’t believe me, but it’s really simple:

  • 1 cup of grated Aleppo soap
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 spoonful of glycerine

Heat all ingredients slowly in a bain-marie. I have added a few drops of essential lavender oil for fragrance, because honestly I’m not a big fan of the Aleppo soap smell.

But the great thing is that it is all natural. Aleppo soap is made of olive oil, laurel oil and lye (the liquid obtained by leaching ashes – containing a large amount of potassium carbonate, which is what makes soap feel soapy). And glycerine is a sugar alcohol present in all natural oils, it is extracted with a chemical process called saponification (for more details check wikipedia). When choosing your glycerine you should make sure it is a vegetable glycerine!

Actually you could just use a simple bar of Aleppo soap for your hygiene, but we all like fancy looking products don’t we ? And with this option you can personalize your shower gel and add any fragrance you like.

Lavender is relaxing and particularly mild (also suitable for children), lemon refreshing, ylang-ylang stimulating, rose romantic, etc.

NB: If you’re pregnant you should use essential oils carefully, not all of them are suitable – consult your doctor if you’re not sure!

Here’s the link where I found the recipe.

I can’t wait to take a shower now and tell you if it is any good.

I spent last week in an absolutely amazing place: Les Amanins. It is an agroecological centre in the middle of nowhere in southeastern France founded by Pierre Rabhi and Michel Valentin.

Holidays of a different kind and totally worth it. I learnt about milking sheep, baking bread, making cheese, vegetable garden maintenance, but also about solidarity, cooperation and selflessness. Talking to people who have the same interests and ambitions is very important when trying to pursue a dream!

Some of you may know that I have been making my own cosmetic products for a while now and since I have had so much positive feedback on the subject, I have decided to start a blog where I will share recipes and experiences with you.

Today I tried to make soap for the first time, I’ve been wanting to try that for a long time, but never really found an easy enough recipe. So here it is: Soap recipe in French

Now they have to dry for about 4 weeks and then I’ll let you know about the result!

And here is the result! Not too bad if you take into account that I’ve never done this before
